Legendary Country Musician Dead At 85
There have been a handful of losses in the country music world this year. Most came from behind the scenes, but were very important people nonetheless. They have left a lasting impact and won’t soon be forgotten. Now, another legendary musician has sadly passed away, leaving a hole in the industry. Not only were they an iconic musician, but they were also known for their producer skills.
Jerry Kennedy died on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026. The Shreveport, Louisiana native was known for his work with such icons as Roy Orbison on the smash hit song, “Pretty Woman.” Moreover, Jerry had ties to legends, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Kris Kristofferson, and Elvis Presley. When word came that he had passed, Orbison’s team immediately released a statement honoring Jerry and all that he had done:
He played the guitar on many smash hits, and was a well-known producer, leaving a lasting mark. The Country Music Hall of Fame also released a statement, honoring Jerry Kennedy’s contributions. Here is just a fragment of what they had to say regarding his legacy:
As a first-class session musician, he created signature licks that were as recognizable as song titles, and as a producer and a record label executive, he built a sonic platform for giants to stand on.
In 2007, he was one of the first inductees into the Musicians Hall of Fame. He was inducted alongside Harold Bradley, Floyd Cramer, Pete Drake, and Charlie McCoy. Furthermore, the MHoF went on to name its performance space the “Jerry Kennedy Theater” after the legend himself. No cause of death has been revealed just yet, but he leaves behind three sons.
A Heartbreaking Death
Saying goodbye to country legend, Jerry Kennedy, has not been easy. After reading what Roy Orbison’s team wrote, fans and those who crossed paths with Jerry quickly chimed in. They had condolences and stories to share:
