Alan Osmond's Family: All About the Late Musician's Wife and 8 Kids

Introduction:

Alan Osmond was a family man.

The musician — who was the oldest member of The Osmonds — rose to fame with several of his siblings in the 1970s as they released hit songs like “One Bad Apple” and “Down by the Lazy River.” After meeting his future wife, Suzanne Osmond (née Pinegar), at a Brigham Young University basketball game, the pair got married in 1974.

Together, they welcomed eight children, who started families of their own and made Alan and Suzanne grandparents to 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, per CBS affiliate KUTV. In a January 2024 conversation with PEOPLE, Alan’s son Nathan Osmond joked that their family gatherings need a “stadium rental.”

On April 20, Alan died at 76 years old, nearly 40 years after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and retiring from performing, per KUTV.

In his 2024 memoir, One Way Ticket, Alan wrote about how although he was known for his career for most of his life, his legacy lives in his family.

“My family is my priority and my love is unconditional,” he wrote, per The Guardian. “Show business was our living, but my family is my life. That’s how we survived show business.”

Here’s everything to know about Alan Osmond’s wife and kids.

Suzanne is from Utah

Much like The Osmonds, Suzanne has also long called Utah home. She was raised in Spanish Fork, Utah, alongside six siblings, per her bio for Utah Women’s Walk.

She stayed close for school, attending Brigham Young University and studying early childhood education.

“Suzanne loves to learn, to teach, and plays the piano and violin,” her bio reads. “She was also trained as a leader in in the Cub Scout and Boy Scout organizations and has served for many years.”

Suzanne and Alan were married for over five decades

Suzanne and Alan met when Alan saw her cheerleading at a Brigham Young University basketball game and introduced himself, per the Daily Herald. Their first date was a motorcycle ride up Y Mountain, and when Suzanne walked down at the end, Alan knew he had met “the one.”

After less than a month, the pair got married on July 16, 1974, in the Provo Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Immediately after the event, the newlyweds boarded a plane for Las Vegas, as Alan had two shows to perform with his brothers.

“When I said yes I’ll marry you, I didn’t know what I was getting into,” Suzanne said at a Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce event in November 2021, per the outlet. “Our life has been non-stop and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

They went on to welcome eight sons — Michael, Nathan, Doug, David, Scott, Jon, Alex and Tyler — all of whom they raised as members of the church, per Suzanne’s Utah Women’s Walk bio.

Suzanne and Alan have not only raised eight kids together, but also worked alongside each other.

They wrote several children’s books together, including If the Shoe Fits, published in October 1998, and Twice Upon a Time Tales, published in February 2025.

Some of their children are musicians

Several of Alan and Suzanne’s children followed in his — and several of his siblings — footsteps in the music and entertainment industry.

Their son Nathan is a country singer, known for his 2009 hit “The Tailgate Song.” During his January 2024 conversation with PEOPLE, Nathan reflected on being a proud “second generation” Osmond, specifically going down the country route like his aunt, Marie Osmond.

“I love country music. So I think my Aunt Marie’s excited one of us kept it country,” he said. “It’s just been fun to follow in their footsteps.”

Meanwhile, Nathan’s brother David also pursued a music career as a pop singer. Much like his father, his career was disrupted when he was diagnosed with MS, per Today. According to the outlet, Alan helped David learn an important lesson about the disease, telling his son, “Yes, I have MS, but it doesn’t have me.”

He has continued performing and pursuing his music career, telling Today, “I have so much I want to say, so much to sing about: I feel like it’s just pouring out of me.”
